IFM Labrador Sea PALACE Drifter Tracks

A total of 15 PALACE floats has been deployed in the boundary current by June 1998: 6 by R/V Knorr in February 1997, 7 by R/V Meteor in July 1997, and 2 by R/V Hudson in June 1998. PALACE floats drift at 1500m depth within the LSW core and rise to the surface while taking a hydrographic profile every 5 days in winter and every 20 days in summer. Latest surface observation on plot: March 1999.

The trajectories consist of a sinking point and a surfacing point, derived from the surface Argos locations. Since the floats can ground themselves, beware of segments that are shallower or slower-moving than the norm.
