Notes:

  1. Float 091 did not fail at sea. After 14 months of at-sea operation, we had the rare opportunity to recover the float when it happened to drift into near-shore Bahamian waters. The float was recovered for engineering purposes. After laboratory examinations were complete the float was refurbished, equipped with a Sea-Bird SBE-41 CTD, and redeployed as float 213213 in the Japan/East Sea.

  2. Float 228 was air-deployed from a US Navy C-130 cargo plane on September 3, 1999. The air-deployment technique was developed by Webb Research Corporation and the deployment was conducted by the Naval Oceanographic Office.
